#1 THE FEATHER GRASS INSPIRED TOP

Autumn has come for a while now people. It’s time to say goodbye to our favorite summer with those croptops, off-shoulder tops, short jeans and put on some warm coat for the new season. But it doesn’t mean you cannot dress up with little skin showing up. Right? 🙌

1. FINDING INSPIRATION

That’s why I come up with my newly designed top that took inspiration of white and free feather grass in the wind.

A little close up

The top will be worn together with a special woolen scarf that wraps around your body and provides the heat to  survive the cold wind. I will show you how to make it in very next blogspot. But now let’s just focus on the top. ♥️

     2. MAKING PATTERN (& How to 🌟)

If you read my About page, you will find that I make my own pattern.

When making pattern, I feel like I have to think a lot about the final product. How it’s gonna shape on the model’s body? Where to attach what on in order to match your design closest? Those kind of questions.

To make it easier to understand, I put some numbers on the drawing. The feather grass inspired top consists of 3 pieces:

1. Right Front

2. Left Front

3. Back

And, yes! Measurement explanation…

AB: Garment length = shoulder to wanted position

BC = 1/2 Waist

BM=CN: Pinning places >=9cm (depending on how much you would want your neck to be open, the less the more opened neckline)

AD=EF: One shoulder length + 10cm or more (depending on how many ruffles you want to make, the broader the more ruffle you will have. One ruffle is about 4-5cm)

(Special measurement for the Back piece)

IJ: Back’s middle line = AB – 3cm

BI= BC/2

AD: Original One shoulder length (with no adding number)

Important * Remember to fold the fabric by the middle line (IJ) when cutting pattern on fabric.

3. CHOOSING FABRIC & final pattern

I was very lucky being able to find such good fabric  ON SALE💲💕 in a small fabric store named マリア (MARIA) near the Kawagoe Station for just 988¥ tax-included. It is even cheaper than in my home country.

The material is not really impressed since it is just a plain Polyester 100% which someway contributes to its low price, huh. :)) But but but, this gives me the right texture for my design, a loose and flowy look just like a feather grass in the wind.

The color is very beautiful too. The color is a soft and mature beige. It catches the light well without making those cheap cheesy glitters which adds more texture to the top’s detail. STRONG POINT!!

Before cutting, you should flaten your fabric so that there would be no mistakes with the measurements.

And this is what you get! 🎉🎯

If there is something wrong in the pattern, usually, I would go back and fix it later on. Remember that you learn from your mistakes. So don’t be afraid to try.

Til next time

have a nice day, you Mayvellous.
